User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Installed smoothly, only one minor glitch.
I too was concerned about some of the reviews indicating serious problems with this upgrade, but I needed some of the Business options, so I ordered this upgrade, and obtained an Anytime Upgrade disc from Microsoft. The Amazon license key purchase was nearly instant, and I made sure that all applications were turned off/shut down (esp. the "quiet" ones in the toolbar), and I was NOT running antivirus, as those programs are known to interfere with system-level activities.

Also, I had a clean install of HomePremium that was only about a month old, so I suppose the system was still pretty "clean". I also allowed the installation program to search for updates before beginning, and it downloaded a large file, then started installation over again. These are NOT Windows Updates — after it was all done, Windows Update installed 37 additional Recommended updates, and I chose another five or so of the Optional ones.

The only glitch I ran across was during the first restart - Windows was not able to shut down, and I couldn't shut it down from menus either. I finally powered the system off, and when I powered back on, it went back into Setup and continued the process. Subsequent restarts occurred without incident.

It does take a few hours, as advertised, and I did back up my personal folders and settings just in case. Ultimately (no pun intended), all my programs and settings were preserved, and I'm back up and running Vista Ultimate, which is the version I should have bought in the first place.

5 Stars Dunno what I did wrong, but the upgrade went through very smoothly!
I had read all the reviews and decided "What the heck". After all, i use a laptop and want bitlocker and the other security enhancements.

I ordered from Microsoft (I wish I had from amazon as I've a $25 certificate) and installed it according to their directions and recommendations.

Keep in mind I had a 3rd party antivirus security product installed.

When I started the upgrade process, I got a prompt asking if I wanted to get product updates online (recommended) - I said 'yes' to this. Maybe that was why my upgrade was successful.

Note, I own a Gateway MX8739 and it came with its own Anytime Upgrade disc.

The actual upgrade took almost 2 hours and was mostly automatic. Once it got back to the login screen, I entered my name and password as usual. My desktop reappeared normally. I started MS Word 2007 and it re-initialized and had to reboot. I said "no" to that prompt because Windows Update was downloading and installing 30 updates at the same time.

I did have to re-activate, but that went through without a hitch. Vista Ultimate is now the installed version, it's activated, antivirus program's definitions downloaded without fail, Office did its update and my settings remained unchanged, I am very happy.

I'm sorry some people had problems. I almost did not buy because of what has been said. However I did buy, and am glad I did. Hopefully my two cents will help address the balance.

1 Star This is dumb
The inplace upgrade is more expensive than simply buying ultimate upgrade and be done with it — home premium ed. costs 150, this upgrade is 150 — all the while Ultimate upgrade is 250 flat. You are wasting 50$ for no apparent reason.

4 Stars worked like it should
I installed with no issues. This is the 32 bit version only. Make sure this is what you want.

1 Star Don't try this at home!
I purchased this to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Ultimate so that I could run Virtual PC 2007. The first time I tried the upgrade it failed (after about 3hours) with a non-specific error: Windows was unable to upgrade a component or components. I tried it again with the help of Microsoft phone support. The second time it also failed but it also took out my hard disk so that I had to restore it from my latest backup. This product is still in the alpha stage. Don't buy it unless you have at least 8 hours to play around with it. It is not a stable product.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Bill need a recall on this one. Wish I could go back to XP
Aside from some pleasant pictures, this is a BAD improvement over something that worked well. Worse yet is to get the Bundle with the new Word and Excel, which are terrible. Fortunately, I have another computer with the older versions on it. So, if I have a sophisticated Word document, I have some recourse.

1 Star Terrible operating system
I've been testing Windows Vista in my "lab" for a few weeks now. Some of the problems I have encountered:

1. The addition of a Linksys wireless network adapter card caused 3 different Vista installations on 3 different platforms to blue screen.

2. If the Windows Update via the Internet is interrupted, the system becomes corrupt (happened twice), requiring a total rebuild. This is BAD!

3. After a successful Windows Update, Vista required me to register and validate the software a second time.

4. System performance when running various applications (including Office) decreased by more than 60% due to memory management issues.

5. A Toshiba thumb drive simply wouldn't work under Vista–how this can be is beyond me.

6. In order to play various games, such as World of Warcraft, you need to operate under an account with Administrative privileges–this is an obvious security risk.

7. Upon losing the network connection, the user has to manually restart the connection–Vista will not repair the network connection. This is something I have never seen before. Even Windows 3.11 knew how to repair a broken network connection.

8. A great deal of software (including various Adobe applications) do not work under Vista. Same problem with games. Neverwinter Nights 2 will not work under Vista depending on your hardware configuration. From what I have read and tested, I would estimate that 75% of existing software will not work under Vista, or will experience problems.

I could go on and on, but needless to say, Vista is an unmitigated disaster for Microsoft and the public. Their CIO was recently fired for reasons "unknown," but one has to speculate that it had something to do with the failure of Microsoft's new flagship OS.

Save your money. Stick with XP or buy a Mac.

1 Star Not where it should be
If you look at the history of Vista (aka "Longhorn"), it is no where near where it should be. Microsoft went over deadlines on multiple occasions and the features that were to be so definitive are missing. And the new features are buggy at best.

Do yourself a favor and leave Windows. It's far beyond where it should be and this garbage is overpriced. I mean, c'mon. Over $300 for an operating system with subpar features, and a horrible interface? No thanks.

I'm just happy my college partnered with Microsoft so I didn't have to actually pay for it (well, I did but through student fees).

4 Stars hmmmm.
I wonder why so many people hate it. I have never had a problem that was unique to Vista that I did not have with XP. Moving and copying files seem easier it feels slicker and those annoying security windows can be turned off. I guess it's just cool to hate Microsoft. I just upgraded to the 64 bit Ultimate version and so far so good.

1 Star The best thing about Vista is it makes you want to buy a Mac.
The best thing about using Vista is it makes you want to run out and buy a make. Vista tried turning a windows machine into a mac but it did it very badly. Os x is the best OS out there and now the new intel macs can even run XP. So you really cant lose. Everyone should just switch to mac and if they need to use windows just boot up Xp on your macs. Its that simple.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Adobe Web Design Premium CS3
This is a great package of wonderful programs in a convenient bundle. Powerful tools that will assist any web or graphics designer. It may be slightly complicated for someone who is not techo-savvy.

I loved Studio 8, and I love this more.

4 Stars So far, better than expected
I recently upgraded to CS3 Web Premium on a WinXP machine with Studio MX 2004 installed and separate Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 installations. For me, the upgrade went very smoothly. This may have been due to my learning from the trials of those installing before me, because I took the advice of many in these reviews and elsewhere: before installing, I manually removed all versions of Adobe Reader and all Flash and Shockwave players and disabled pretty much everything running in the taskbar quicklaunch area, as well as disabling virus protection. I left my Photoshop, Illustrator and Studio MX installs alone, and even with those in place, I was asked to enter the product id number for Studio MX, which I still had. But with these fairly straightforward pre-installation steps, the install itself went well and only took an hour or two.

I've only begun using the new features, but have so far seen the following:

Photoshop CS3 - seems to open and run more quickly than my CS2 installation (on my 5 year old PC.) There is a new default desktop layout for tools and windows which took a little getting used to, but I like better now than previous versions…it makes it easier to get more usable graphic image working area. There is a new magic selection tool that provides a lot of control over selection edge (you drag the tool around and it dynamically builds the selection, then can apply changes to edge non-destructively until you get what you want…very cool!)

Flash CS3 - so far, have explored only the video capabilities…it seems much easier to build integrated Flash video players from 'template-like' components than previous versions. They've also included an external Flash video encoder to convert other formats to Flash video…to test, I converted a WMV file to high quality Flash video…the resulting video file size was large, but the quality was fantastic.

Dreamweaver CS3 - seems to handle CSS designs better than previous versions. This version also seems more stable than my MX 2004 version…that one crashed every once in awhile. Have had no stability issues with CS3. Dreamweaver CS3 also adds a new library of components for javascript and AJAX features like rollover pulldown menu support.

I haven't opened Fireworks, Contribute or Illustrator yet, and have seen only a small part of CS3 so far, but from what I've seen CS3 seems to improve stability, and add features that, while maybe not earth-shaking, are useful and well implemented. Recommended.

5 Stars A must-have creative tool
As everyone already knows, Adobe CS3 is a must-have for creative professionals. This version of Creative Suite lives up to its reputation, providing tons of great new tools. The only problem I have had is the installation of Illustrator - it fails to install successfully.

4 Stars Great Product once you get past the Installation Hurdles
I upgraded to Adobe CS3 Web Premium from Macromedia Studio MX recently. When I tried to install the new software on my Windows Vista Ultimate laptop, I got an error message with an error code number and a message to contact Adobe Tech Support. Instead of calling Tech Support, I went to Adobe's Knowledge Base on their website and fortunately, the solution to my installation problem was right there and it worked.

Once I got the software installed, it works fine. I primarily use Bridge (it is great for orgainzing my large digital photo collection.), Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I sometimes use Fireworks and Illustrator and I want to do a few animations soon with Flash.

An excellent product other than the installation issues. There is still a lot I want to learn!!

5 Stars CS3
Thank you for your timely delivery. So far I am always satisfied with Amazon's service, keep up the good work.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Upgrade

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Upgrade

Adobe PhotoShop CS3 Upgrade Windows

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Don't upgrade to CS3
I moved up from Elements to Photoshop CS2 a couple of years ago and was very pleased. I saw all the hype about all the new features in CS3 and bought the upgrade. Huge mistake. There is a major problem with printing on window computers. I uninstalled CS3 and went back to CS2 . Google CS3 printing problems and you'll find all sorts of info. Adobe is aware of the problem and says they are going to fix it. They don't say when. I would recommend not buying this upgrade until they have fixed the printing problem

5 Stars Do you really need Photoshop?

Photoshop is a phenomenal product! Although I have owned a copy for years recently upgrading to CS3, I did not fully appreciate the power of the product until I purchased the Photoshop WOW! Book. The Adobe documentation, as is common with much software, stops short of being truly useful. A reference prepared by someone whose focus is using a product is almost always better. I am sure there are other very good books, but I can recommend the WOW book earnestly. It doesn't simply explain what features are available, but how to use them to accomplish remarkable things.

Regarding Photoshop, it is a tool designed to satisfy professional photo editors. The capabilities far exceed what the average point-and-shoot photographer's needs, making it difficult for the amateur to justify the time and cost necessary to master its many intricacies. For pro's, there are few limits once you get up the learning curve.

If you just want to clean up you snapshots, invest in something simpler and cheaper. If you want to be a photographic artist, Photoshop is your tool.

4 Stars Fine, but do not purchase this to upgrade from Creative Suite 2 package
While the product itself is fine, you should not purchase this upgrade if you have Adobe Creative Suite 2 and wish to just upgrade the Photoshop portion of the Creative Suite package. The upgrade will not succeed. Specifically, the serial number will not be accepted as valid.

If you have Creative Suite 2 and wish to upgrade Photoshop, you will need to purchase the Creative Suite 3 upgrade. This upgrade path will work, will result in the Photoshop portion being upgraded, and is still less expensive than purchasing the standalone Photoshop CS3.

5 Stars CS3..Great Upgrade!
I began with ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 5.5 about 7 years ago, and have migrated to all of the NEWEST additions after reading reviews..I initially wasn't going to go from CS2 to CS3, but I'm very happy I did…Memory management and speed have been greatly enhanced as well as a much improved browser and other tweaks..Definitely wrth the $200 upgrade!

4 Stars Upgrade pains
Bought this out of necessity. Definitely problems with this product, unexpected instances of the help viewer open and crash the program. Program crashes unexpectedly while just trying to do simple tasks.

This aside, its the standard Adobe product story, you want to use it to the exclusion of everything else in your life…your job, your marriage, your personal hygiene.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Absolutly Fan Friggin tastic
In short the graphics and sound are outstanding. But what makes this game remarkable is a great campaign that intermingles the game engine with FMV the like of which have not been seen since the first C&C except this has a much higher production value.

Also the unit balance is incredible I love how the infanry and tanks and planes all have a place in the game. I throughly enjoyed this game more then any other and I have played almost every RTS out there.

I really enjoyed C&C Generals and Zero Hour but I love this game.

5 Stars Sweet and does Command and Conquer proud.
It's a sweet game and nice features and does Command and Conquer proud.

5 Stars One of the great RTS games that you never hear about
This is one of the best RTS games that I have played. I love the "what if" type of game that applies to current events, such as high gas prices and terrorist attacks. I think the actors were good in their rolls. The graphics of the are stunning. Launching an attack to retake the capital building and then the white white house, thats great. The different units are a good balance as well as the different types of forces you command.

The next game Act of War High Treason is even better but no one ever hears about it. Man, just writing about these game makes me want to play them right now, so get it play it and then play it again.

3 Stars Awesome graphics - Lame strategy - No Humour
I love C&C generals zero hour despite the fact that it is filled with cheaters and have no support anymore (if it ever was any support to speak of)

Reason for this , is not graphics, but gameplay and strategy depth. If you only care about the wrapping and not the inside, then Direct Action is clearly for you. Graphics in Act of war beat generals any day.

Durability on the other hand…. This game is simply to dull to play a lot. There is no humour at all in this game. If you think a strategy game should be all about seriousness- go ahead, dont listen to me.

Me? I am better off playing generals zero hour. It is better weigthed, more fun, and you even find enougfh people online wich you can play it with.

I logged on this weekend with this game, and I saw only two other nicks online, apart from myself.

Guess there are more people than me that values the depth and humour in a rts higher than graphics.

4 Stars Buy it if you can find it.
I have played both the C&C as well as RA2 and Act of War is as good as it gets. This may be the game that the other RTS games were trying to achieve. The graphics are spectacular, maybe an 8 out 10 (even better if you have a PC that can keep up). San Francisco, London and Moscow are all well done urban centers with lots of structures to capture, hide in or blow up. The enemy can be anywhere. Tanks, Choppers, Roads and Trees all appear to be correctly proportioned (my pet peeve). The people look real enough. The story line is amusing although meaningless. The various scenarios presented in the campaign are, for the most part, simply excuses to build a base, defend it, marshal your forces and then attack. In the solo scenarios you can face off against up to 8 enemies. And the best part; I found it in the discount bin (i.e. $9.99). Biggest drawback is overall gameplay; right and left mouse buttons do just the opposite than they do in C&C, so it's a little confusing at first (especially is you're used to playing C&C). Also, the campaign will fail if Sgt Jefferson dies (harder than you think). Bottom line; buy it if you can find it.

Math Advantage 2008

Math Advantage 2008

Math Advantage 2008 was specially developed to supplement classroom curriculum by including great award-winning content that support state standards. In-depth lessons with sample problems and questions teach, reinforce and track student progress in the different branches of Mathematics.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Like Having a Math Tutor in Your Home
I am very impressed with Math Advantage 2008 by Encore Software, and I very highly recommended that it be in the home of all students who are taking Grade 6 - 12 math. The program comes on one DVD, which is convenient. It's actually comprised of material which in previous editions came on 10 CD-ROMs. It's really 10 programs in one, and it would be a bargain at twice the retail price.

Each of the 10 programs needs to be installed separately, but each is a quick install which takes up relatively little hard drive space. I had no trouble with it on my Dell Windows XP laptop. Each program covers is a different subject, or level of subject. For example, among the programs are Algebra I, Algebra, II, Pre-Algebra, Basic Math, Geometry, etc. A nice bonus is a program that teaches you how to use Microsoft Excel 2003.

Each of the programs includes the related material broken down into about 10 chapters. Each chapter is comprised of pages of text that you navigate through one page at a time, although most of the pages require vertical scrolling. The content on these pages is laid out very well, in a straight-forward manner, as would be the case with a quality textbook. On many of the pages, some special buttons will appear at the top of the page. I was a little confused about the fact that those buttons applied to that particular page, and that if they also appeared on the next page, they took you to different content.

In some cases, you'll see a button for "Basics." This takes you to a very short, simplified page that introduces the concept being taught on the main page. Some pages have a button called "Challenge", which presents a more advanced problem on the topic. Some pages have a "Real Life" button, which usually presents either a word problem on the topic, or a short narrated video clip with some real-world analogy. Some of these analogies are a bit more realistic than others.

Some students might be a bit annoyed at a "real world" problem that states, "A fireman's ladder makes a 37 degree angle with the ground…," but at least it does present the material in a different context. Certainly word problems and diagram problems make up a large component of the types of questions that students encounter on exams. Many of the pages have a button for related exercises, which include detailed answers and descriptions for how each problem was solved.

The best feature is that for many of the pages, you will also see a Multimedia button. This takes you to a video clip in which a narrator (there are both male and female) explains the lesson in detail, while the corresponding work is shown with animated graphics. It's like having a tutor in your home. In some cases there is an interactive component.

Some students might say that the video clips are "dry," but realistically, factoring polynomials is just not that exciting. The video clips are direct, and to-the-point. They are very easy to see and hear, but they don't include fancy singing and dancing like you might see on Sesame Street, which might disappoint some students. It's not a Hollywood production, but the multimedia components are excellent.

The program includes quizzes that you can use to test yourself, and some simple games that you can play which reinforce the material by quizzing you within the context of the game.

The program can be shared by many students. Each student has his/her own logon ID that they choose when they first use the program. I cannot speak highly enough about this software package. I will be recommending it to all of my tutoring clients, and using it as a component of some of my sessions.

4 Stars Math review
i needed a bit of review with basic math,

and this program offered me just what i needed. i highly recommend this program, it helped me understand how to do problems in a very simple way to understand

Fantasic Four with over 575 issues (Nov. 1961 through Dec. 2006) and Silver Surfer 185 issues (Aug. 1968 through Dec. 2004). System Requirements: Requires Adobe Acro

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Brilliant product from Marvel.
Excellent!Could'nt be happier with this DVD-ROM.Literally hundreds of Fantastic Four issues at an affordable price.

4 Stars Great Collection but Unfair
If you're a Marvel fan, these collections are a godsend. Collecting on DVD what would take years and thousands of dollars to collect in comic format is a boon to the reader, and that is who is truly benefitting from these collections. The only issue keeping this from being a five star collection is the annoying habit of representing material which is on a previously released DVD collection. The collected FF was released two years ago and now it has been re-released (including an additional year's worth of books) with the Silver Surfer in this collection. I understand this was timed for the release of the second FF movie but this release is unfair to those of us who purchased the original FF collection. In my opinion, the loyal Marvel fan would have been better served had the Silver Surfer been released in a compilation of cosmic titles (Captain Marvel, Nova, Quasar, etc.). Does anyone out there want a copy of First 44 Years of Fantastic Four on DVD?!?

5 Stars Dr. Doom finally gets his due……
I was very excited when Marvel and GIT Corp came out with these products. Now instead of collecting every single comic book you can now simply pop in a DVD-rom and get every single issue you could have ever dreamed of!!!

I am a big fan of the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer comics are simply a throw-in in which I would be happy to take. The Fantastic Four were created so amazingly like a real life family that one must give Stan Lee and Jack Kirby their due. The villains of the FF are unreal starting in issue #1 with the Mole Man and moving on with issue #4 and the Sub-Mariner. The greatest villain of the Marvel universe makes his appearance in issue #5 in the form of Dr. Doom. Doom would go on to be one of the most famous comic book villains of all time ranking up there with the Joker, Lex Luther, Darkseid, and the Green Goblin. (Also remember Star War fans that Darth Vadar's suit was influenced by Doom's). These issues also cover the famous Silver Surfer and Galactus story lines starting in issue #48. There are so many first Marvel appearances in these issues like the Skrulls, Klaw, Black Panther, Negative Zone, Blastaar, Diablo, Pyscho Man, Molecule Man, etc. that the FF simply must go down as one of the most defining comic books ever sold.

This set is amazing and any one who does not want to pay the money for every issue (start saving because thats 750 comics) this is for you!!!!

3 Stars Good Buy, but….
These are good programs, and i think anyone would be happy to own it, BUT I'm disappointed because I purchased this product a few months earlier, before they added the silver surfer issues, and now i feel like i got the shaft. It makes me reluctant to buy any more of these, because now I feel like there's always going to be a better edition coming down the road. I was going to buy the spiderman one today, but now i want to wait in case they come out with a more inclusive version as well. They should make the silver surfer issues available either as a download or for sale as a seperate disc for $10 or so, for those of us who purchased from them in the past.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Stable Platform
I have found OSX 10.5 to be a stable platform. The new features of the system that I use are the stacking and the stationary for Mail. The COMMAND + F feature is upgraded and very useful. The one problem I had was easily solved by updating the software immediately after loading the program. Without this update my Mail program didn't work. When you begin to upload the new OS the computer verifies the integrity of the DVD. I skipped this step without incident and saved 45 minutes. I can't say that the new system is that much better than 0S 10.4 to justify the expense. To me it was a matter of keeping up to date with features and security. I am satisfied with the new OS.

5 Stars if you want fun or work- this is perfect
it extends play almost endlessly and it gives you many new features for work and industry files.

5 Stars Great Product
Fantastic product!!! Everyone who owns a Mac and doesn't have Leopard needs to get it today.

3 Stars Not bad, but not revolutionary.
This is what I consider to be a decent upgrade. I bought the family pack and had major installation problems on one of my four machines. Then I had to sit on the phone for a long time to even figure out how to fix it. The magazine MacWorld told me now to do it, btw.

Anyway, it's fine, but no great shakes in terms of improvement over the older version. It's a little better, but not a light year leap ahead.

5 Stars Mac OS X leopard
I've bought this with iLife for 2 Mac computers. It is easy to install. I did not need to format like other platforms, it was just an upgrade.I like the multi desktop feature it is cool and works fine with no delay. There are lots of other stuff to try. Sharing documents and an exrternal HD was easy too.

5 Stars I am sold on Print Master
Great product! This is my third upgrade of the popular software. This allows me to save money, by making my own cards and stationary. The kids and I enjoy the crafts that we can make with Print Master.

Highly recommeded product.

1 Star This program is hard to work with
I have had a number of other card programs but this program is so convuluted that it is hard to produce anything with it. I am sending it back.

3 Stars What a rip off
More than half the images needed to be downloaded, a rip off.

I upgraded from 16 to 18 (DVD) because I thought I could install all the images on my computer and work offline… not so… you need to have internet access to download most of them.

I'm reverting back to 16 so I can put all the images back on my computer.

5 Stars PrintMaster 18
Great product. Am glad to add it to my PrintMaster collection.

Best Greeting Card program I've found.

5 Stars PrintMaster Platinum 18
I have used PrintMaster for many years. There's nothing better. Learn some short-cuts. Ctrl-C (Copy), Ctrl-V (Paste), and Ctrl-Z (Undo) or the Homer Simpson button, as I like to call it, "Oooops!" Play with the menu options. Lots of features and huge selection of photos. A must have.
