User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Very, Very Pleased!
I also have not had time to discover all the new things on Tiger. I upgraded from Panther on a souped up G3 imac special edition DV. Instead of buying a new computer for thousands, it cost me about $300. So far I'm finding it well worth the price. It's faster and Tiger is running well. There have been no problems and I'm reading the book Tiger for Dummies to get a better handle on things. I am a veteran Mac user and while I am familiar with Windows, prefer it immensely.

1 Star Buggest software around
Unreliable software. It hangs up frequently. iCal is the worst scheduling program on the market. Expect it to duplicate events every time you sync with your phone. On a related note. Expect to pay for 3rd party software in order to sync your phone if its not a iphone.

1 Star overpriced
Built on top of free unix technology, add that to overpriced software bundles and limiting compliance to vendor supplied hardware and you've got a real winner. Ubuntu 7.04 PC Edition is basically the same technology under the hood and is going to save you some green.

5 Stars Mac vs Windows
I have been working with computers for 33 years. I have programmed OSs in assembler so I think I can say a few words about the operating system of a computer with a modicum of authority. While Mac OS X "Tiger" isn't perfect, each time I have to use WinXP I thank God that there is an alternative — Mac OS X "Tiger"! There are so many aspects of Tiger that are just right vs so many aspects of WinXP that are just WRONG! It's scarry to think that Microsoft — with 15000+ programmers working on a project to essentially copy the Mac OS — could miss so many points in it's effort to clone the Mac OS. Imagine how bad it would be if they doubled the size of their staff?!? WinXP — and Word 2003 for that matter — are the true weapons of mass destruction. Just get a Mac! And thank you Amazon for allowing me to say all of this!

5 Stars The Best OS
Do I really need to review this? It is by FAR the best OS out there (until October when the new one comes out!).

LIttle to no crashes or problems. Easy for beginners on a computer. Won't scare away the timid. Makes setting up your computer a breeze!

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star never recieved
i would like to review this product if i have ever recieved it but it was sent to anouther zip code and not returned

5 Stars One of the best PC series ever.
Having purchased all three of the original games when they first came out I was overjoyed to hear that they grouped them all together in one collection. Both my Fallout and Fallout 2 CD's were scratched so bad they would not load on my PC anymore and the 1st disk of my FO:T was snapped in half rendering it useless. After hearing word that the loooong awaited Fallout 3 is due out in Fall of 2008 (on PS3 and XBox 360) I had to get my hands on the original 3 again.

5 Stars Heck of a deal for two of the best RPGs ever made and Tactics is okay I guess
Fallout fans tend to measure all other cRPGs by the rather tough standards Fallout 1 and 2 laid out and have for the most part been disappointed as a result of it in recent years.

The game's weren't considered particularly pretty even for their time but the relevance of player and character choice in the games is unmatched by any modern cRPG out there. The perk system is probably one of the the first elements of a computer roleplaying game to actually get adopted by pen & paper games and is sheer genius considering the original devs had to improvise on the fly when GURPS creator Steve Jackson pulled himself and the GURPS license off of the project.

It's quite possibly the most replayable RPG series I've ever experienced owing to the vast number of different ways quests and obstacles can be resolved.

So come find out why Fallout Fans have a reputation for being so incredibly insufferable when it comes to the slightest changes, real or perceived when it comes to speculation on Bethesda's Fallout 3.

5 Stars Great games for a great price
If you want all the fallout games for a good price go buy this one.

Even though fallout tactics sucks the price makes it worth it with bout fallout 1 and fallout 2 and it's difficult to get a brand new fallout games without this game set.

go buy and enjoy one of the greates groundbreaking games ever:)

5 Stars Fallout collection DVD
Amazing been looking for this installation files have been updated to let fallout one and two run on xp/vista

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Don't buy this unless you REALLY need the extras.
I have been using Microsoft Office since 2001, owning every format it has been released in even prior to that date. My favorite, MS Office 2003, is a fantastic program, which allows me to do everything from write business letters, faxes, client billing, office memorandums, power point presentations, project potential profits for an upcoming year, etc. You might now ask, why can't the 2007 version do this? Well, it can… if you can find the buttons.

MS Office 2007, is essentially a re-worked version of 2003 with INCOMPATIBLE file extensions, and SMALL few new options like seeing text size/font while mousing over text, yet having to track down misplaced buttons, an annoying layout that seems to have been designed with people of lower intelligence in mind, and less online support. I do enjoy some of the new templates and options. But they are more of flashy extra, like leather in an old car. Whomever dreamed up doing this, was most likely someone with a degree in business but NO personal experience in what people really NEED in the office, to get things done. Example: Excel is only useful to a certain point in 2003 as it runs out of space with giant worksheets for company billing. It also has some new time based options for age requirement in a billing folder. BUT, there are other free programs out there (many online) which easily replace it, do all of this and more like open it further if you run out of space, without having to spend a small fortune to replace it. Why waste your hard-earned money on a fancy faced office, with no real improvements over 2003?

Buy MS Office Professional 2003, and leave the 2007 version to the forgotten shelves containing "supposedly improved software" of yesteryear. My copy is going to be donated free of charge to someone who cannot afford even 2003, and has enough time on their hands (as well as inexperience with former versions) to learn it.

3 Stars POOR IN THE USER FRIENDLY CATAGORY!
I have an older version of Microsoft Office and like the additional features as described by Microsoft. My problem is that the newer product isn't as user friendly and instructions available on line are vague. I have yet to successfully transfer complete contact data from previous version of Outlook.

1 Star Makes me feel like I've never used a computer before
I've been using, or rather, attempting to use, Office 2007 for several weeks now. Only every time I want to edit my document, make a formatting change, etc. - things I could do in a second in Office 2003 - I invariably end up searching the ribbon in vain and turning to the help document. Good luck finding that, incidentally, it must've taken me five minutes the first time. Seriously, "steep learning curve" is an understatement - Microsoft has absolutely trashed Office's interface.

2 Stars MS Office 2007
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 UPGRADE

I have been using computers for over 45 five years and PC's for the past 25. I recently upgraded from MS Office 2003 to 2007 (professional) for use on my home computer. Over the years I have progressed from various minicomputer report generators, word processors and PC based word processors. There is always a certain amount of learning with the upgrading process, but I am totally disgusted with some of the changes in Officer 2007. I use all of the components of the package (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), but am most concerned with Word, especially for anyone in a business environment where time, deadlines and money are important considerations. Some of my concerns are with the new interface. It is almost impossible to locate many of the features that are required to prepare a simple letter or report. Yes, they have supplied a lot of interactive help and it is great for kids and geeks in learning mode, but very slow and frustrating for a mature user that is really only interested in getting the job done! I just completed trying to edit a report and it is so bad that I am going to the office and use the old machine! Another example is with the importing of scanned material into a document or report. It use to be a very simple process of importing directly from a the scanner and now there is a whole new separate system that requires going out of word, importing the material from the scanner into clip organizer and clipping back into work. It is a horrible and inconvenient system that is a poor substitute for the old approach. I will not pretend to have a complete understanding of the 2007, but these are a few things that I notice. My real concern is that anyone in the business world should look long and hard at making the change as the loss in productivity while learning to use the new system will very high. Now having stated that side of the problem I am certain that there will be a reverse effect when starting employees from secondary schools and college come into the organization they will feel most comfortable with the new product, given that Microsoft gives them the most recent material for free. You can't win on this one. Microsoft needs to go back to the drawing board on this one!

5 Stars EXELLENT!
I have just today received my Office Professional 2007 and I have installed it on my system. I really don't understand all the negative reviews posted here. The Upgrade went smoothly, quickly, & flawlessly. I am very pleased with the entire migration from Office Pro-XP to 2007. I like the new features and the "ribbon" so many are complaining about is very nicely done. I have no problem finding any of my commonly used features. Better yet, features I had to dig to find are there on the ribbon. Outlook ran superbly and actually started FASTER than my old Outlook XP! I like the way the new mail is ordered, grouping those received today, last week, and older emails. I also like the layout of Word and Excel, and yes, the shortcut-keys do work. I had no problem opening older files in any of my new Office apps. If your concerned about backwards compatability, don't be. You can save your work in backwards compatable types. This is no new issue, though. I've gone through that process many times as I've upgraded my applications. IT'S NO BIG DEAL! The types are in the "Save-As file type" drop down. After reading some of the negative reviews here and experiencing the VISTA fiasco, I was a little concerned, but I needed to buy a new copy as I need to install the old Office XP on another PC (want to stay legal) and went into this with crossed fingers. I am happy to say I wasn't disappointed at all and all those nay sayers either have nothing better to do than write really unbased negative reviews or they just like Microsoft bashing. Granted, they've made some real faux-pas, but then what manufacturer hasn't.

This is the FULL version, I never buy upgrade versions.

BTW: I don't have a speed demon of a PC. It is a 2.0Ghz P4 Dell Optiplex GX270. It's about 3 years old, but it does the job.

Clifford the Big Red Dog Learning Activities

Clifford the Big Red Dog Learning Activities

A popular magazine is looking for a special community of dogs to feature in their next issue. Clifford, T-Bone, and Cleo need your help to make a big impression! While having fun, children develop important skills as they travel around Birdwell Island helping their neighbors.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars This is my 3 yr old daughter's favorite CD game
This is a really neat CD for kids. It is challenging, yet the game is very easy to navigate for kids. I can sit my daughter down, let her play, and not have to worry about her getting stuck because she cannot navigate. This is not some cheap game that is similar to the freebies online either. There are plenty of activities that really challenge my daughter. Plus, the activities get progressively harder. I have Blue's Clues, Stanley, Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Dinosaurs, and a few other games for her, but she likes this one best - even after some of the "newness" has worn off.

2 Stars Fun but confusing. Could have been better.
My son had a lot of fun with this software package, but it's not something where you can leave your kid with it and go do something else. The interface is confusing. The cursor often disappears and reappears during the normal course of loading the introduction to certain games, which makes it very confusing for a little guy who just got into a game he's already played and just wants to get out of the game but can't.

Also, the interfaces are not consistant. Some use the gold arrow cursor all the time, while others have the cursur disappear and suddenly one of tha dog characters becomes directly manipulated by the mouse. Again, not consistent and can be quite confusing for a small child.

Then there's the fact that it's really just about a half-dozen games that can be played through in about an hour, and then where do you go after that? To another software package, probably. Of course, there's three difficulty levels and that may make the games interesting for a second or third play.

The bottom line is this is a cute but needlessly confusing (the maze with T-bone is really hard, not maze but the mouse interface) set of game software that will likely have you hovering over your child and helping him/her rather than going off and doing something while you're offspring use the computer.

5 Stars Great for 3 to 5 year olds
Easy to use, educational and fun game for 3 to 5 year olds. My son, 7, is too mature for this game now, but he used to play it a lot and learned patterns, letter sounds, rhymes and counting. My daughter, 4, is very much into it and is learning the same things too.

4 Stars Good game
If your little one likes Clifford then they'll like this game. My son is only 2 and a half and he gets a kick out of it.

5 Stars Very Educational & Fun for 4-5 Yr Olds for Maths & Reading
The Clifford Big Red Dog CDs for Maths & Reading are exceptionally educational & Fun for the growing Child. My daughter started saying words & sentences within 2-3 times of running the CD lessons & started to put Patterns & Numbers in Sequences, Spatial Reasoning also rather quickly.

I HIGHLY recommend this Educational CD as a Learning Tool.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Really good.
I must say that I really enjoy the Tomb Raider series of games and this was so much better than Angel of Darkness it was incredible.

I personally think that Tomb Raider Chronicles was the best one and do not know if they will ever be able to make one better, but this is close.

1 Star Extremely hard to control her movements
I owned the original Tomb Raider and played it with great wonder and satisfaction on a Pentium 1 & Voodoo 1 video card. Man those were the days (for Lara). This new game, while no doubt good to great on other platforms, has a serious flaw for PC users. Keyboard control of Lara is shameful. I spent six hours trying to get her to do what I wanted her to do without much luck. I press the forward key and she instantly turns left and runs off a cliff. Every time I tried to move straight ahead she turned left to walk or run 90* away from the direction I intended. There apparently is no more strafing left or right either which is limiting. Why couldn't they have kept the original's control functions (which were fine)? I couldn't even get her to turn left or right without trying to walk or run.

I suppose I should have given the game more time but after 6 hours of movement madness I have decided to uninstall this 9 gig game. You'd think with 9 gigabytes worth of game they would have… well, you get the idea. After trying to figure out the strange movement issues I went online and found many other people with the same complaint, but strangely a lot think it is fine. I suppose this is an indication that there is some type of setup, workaround, or patch that works. I may do some more digging before uninstalling after all, but I shouldn't have to. Beware…

5 Stars lara croft rocks
I have the PS2 version of the game and loved it to where I bought the Anniversary Edition also…I bought the PC version so I could try out text modification programs and other available cheats that you can do with a computer, but you cant do with a game console…Stan Wetmore

2 Stars Uncontrollable
I am a huge Tomb Raider fan. With all the previous games under my belt, I went out the day this game came out and paid full price for it. What did I get for my $42.89? A nearly uncontrollable marionette. The two things that attracted me so strongly to the Tomb Raider series was the exploration aspect,(yeah, I don't get out much,)and I liked that from the moment you started the game YOU were Lara Croft. The up key meant Lara went forward, the left key was always her left, no matter the camera angle. With Legends, they completely remapped her controls, and now, you are the camera. What fun is that? All of a sudden, moves that were simple in all the other games got me killed over and over and over. How do you jump forward, then do a backward flip when the camera, along with all your directional controls swing around twice during the maneuver? I think I made it one checkpoint, and lost interest. I would love to play the game, but the controls are far too frustrating. I can only hope in the future they add the option to use the tradition game controls.

3 Stars Fun, but difficult to control
I've played the other Tomb Raider games on my PC and loved them. In the first 3 games the controls are basically the same (via keypad). In this game, they are very different, and they try to incorporate the mouse, which is troublesome. I'm still not used to the controls. I have the most difficulty during the fight sequence. When the enemy came into view on the older games, it would automatically lock onto the the target and you could blow them away. This game I haven't figured out how to stay in front of the bad guys, it keeps locking on a target far away while the closer bad guy shoots away at Lara. A bit frustrating, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it.

Overall I think that it's been fun. If your a tomb raider fan, you probably would like it. Try to get it on sale…..

Update to review: Jan 2008: It took a couple of weeks of playing the game and the controls grew on me. I did finish the game and now going to go back to see what I missed on the first levels. The sounds and graphics are incredible, so I say over all it's a four star game.

2 Stars TiVo, bad; DVD burn OK
DVD Burning: Popcorn 3 has done fine burning DVDs, and indeed the new version successfully burned a VIDEO_TS that the my Popcorn 2 failed to do.

TiVo: It only half works: it has a good viewer of your networked TiVo recordings, and can download them just fine .. although it pretty slow. But it simply cannot convert to a format without the audio getting out of sync.

So for Mac users, you can likely get along with tivodecode + Visual Hub for transforming from .tivo to .mpg + conversion to other formats.

This is, however, one more example where Roxio simply doesn't give a damn about Mac users. I try to avoid them and will do so much more in the future, unless they exhibit a considerable change of heart.

1 Star Don't buy for Tivo-to-Go
If you are thinking of buying Popcorn to use the Tivo-toGo feature to encode Tivo files for your iPod or to burn onto DVD, do not spend your money before checking out Tivo and Roxio discussion forums to see if some well-documented problems have been fixed.

Popcorn worked well until the Tivo Fall '07 update was pushed out in October. Tivo files transferred since the update will usually play on your laptop or desktop, but there are serious problems with the export for iPod and DVD functions. At first, the export functions would not work at all in many cases. Roxio eventually got a fix out that allows it to work most of the time, but there is a continuing problem with audio synchronization. Audio is often out of sync with video by anywhere from a half second to three or four seconds.

The annoying thing is that it's completely unpredictable; some programs encode perfectly, some are all but unwatchable. There is no pattern except that 30-Minute programs seem to encode correctly more often than longer shows. My own experience is that you have about a 50/50 chance that it will work correctly.

There are alternatives out there; they may not be as fast or convenient as Popcorn, but they actually work every time. Toast 8, by the way, has the same set of problems.

1 Star Flat out terrible
Roxio continues to disappoint with this product. Video quality is mediocre at best. This product does a lot of strange things that are annoying, such as tagging all converted video as TV in itunes. The software will let you create a dvd with multiple video_ts folders (with menu), but it will not let you shrink to fit before burning, which is just plain stupid as it will shrink to fit almost every other option. I have encoded many dvds using popcorn and the free handbrake software produces much higher quality video files, there really is no reason to own popcorn.

5 Stars Vast improvement from X-Men Legends II
If you played X-Men Legends II Rise of Apocalypse, then definitely purchase this game! It is built on the same engine as X-Men Legends II (XL2) with similar controls, swapping characters, acquiring rings, etc.

Instead of playing with X-Men characters, you can play with an array of Marvel super heroes from Spider Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, All the Fantastic 4, Elektra, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, plus obscure characters like Spider Woman & Mrs. Marvel.

The overall game play is a lot smoother than XL2. There were a lot of times when XL2 froze and I basically had to reboot my computer and lose unsaved progress. I have not had one issue with this game. In fact, the only slight knock is the fact that you have to have the cursor on an enemy in order to attack them.

This game is a great history lesson into the backgrounds of Captain America & Iron Man and you get to pick up cool comics, and artwork just like XL2. Shows almost the entire Marvel catalog! I haven't unlocked all the characters yet, but I hope you get to use Blade!

1 Star Reviews below in doubt ?
I don't see how a 3yr old computer or a 9600XT can run this game(… see other reviews) ?

I have a 2yr old computer with a X800XL 256mb card … card was upgraded after purchase

I believe the minimum card req(… on box) were: Nvidia 7300 and Radeon X1300. Were these cards offered 3yrs ago ? … is a 9600XT similar to a X1300 ?

Does anyone know the reccomended Sys Req ?

If the past is any indicator, Minimum vs Reccomended Sys Req can be quite different … I'd like to know, " what it takes to get the most graphically out out the game"

My X800XL doesn't pass the Vertex/Pixel shading requirement … you need 3.0

I'm not tech savvy, so I'm confused as to how a 9600XT has 3.0 Vertex/Pixel shading OR if a 3yr old computer has/had cards with 3.0 ?

I bought the game based on those reiews.

Guess I'll have to wait till I upgrade my card.

This isn't a review of the game, but a warning on the Sys Req as stated on the box in contrast to several reviews posted below.

————

(…I've altered my review)

Someone pointed out(… in a comment) my Nvidia 6800 has Vertex/Pixel Shading 3.0 ?

Why then does the box state 7300 as the minimum requirement.

As for reviewing a game before playing it; I stated I based my purchase on the reviews below.

I think they are inaccurate/false.

I'm not tech savvy, thank you for pointing out my ignorance on the Nvidia 6800(… I'm physically disabled and unable to access that computer - in another room).

3 Stars Good except for online multiplayer
The game looks great and is fun except that I primarily bought it to play online with friends and currently online play has been way to laggy to be doable.

5 Stars A dream come true
This is probably the most enjoyable game I've played in years. I don't have a console so I only play the PC versions of games and don't play a lot of those - but this is the game that convinced me to buy a gamepad controller for my PC.

If you are a fan of the Marvel universe, or want to be, you will be enthralled by this game. Every character you've ever loved will make an appearance. You'll get to forge your own team and see them perform.

The cinematic cutscenes, between acts, are absolutely fantastic. I so wish they would mag a CGI Avengers movie with those models - Captain America has never looked so real.

The story is written by long time Marvel writer/editor CB Ceybulski (spelling?). This man knows the characters and history of Marvel.

You'll get to visit Marvel locations like a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, Asgard (home of the Norse gods), Hell itself, the moon, a circus, a Chinese palace, and Atlantis.

You'll get to choose from the different costumes the heroes have worn over the years (play Spidey in his black symbiote costume before you see it in Spider-man 3 this summer!)

My only worry is that I'm in Act 4 - so the end can't be that far away. I hope they release an expansion pack!!

My computer is about 3 years old and has had no problem running the game, although you will need about 8GB of hard-drive space to install it.

4 Stars great for super hero fans
If you ever wanted to have a game with all your basic superheroes of Marvel this is the one. It is cool when they use their powers. Story line is ok but each charactor doesn't speak in the story lines so that kind of takes away the feel of being in the game. A lot of smash'em and bash'em. Some superheros are hidden and you have to earn the right to play them. I think is a good if you don't want to think too much and just play and live in the story and have fun.

5 Stars A must have for the student in your home
I purchased the the student encarta for the 2007. I am going to buying the updated version. IT is so valuable. I am a college student. I used it for quick research on term papers, videos, games and so much more. I have found it to be a valuable resource when writing my term papers and so on and so forth. Buy it today and will see your student's success sore. Well worth the price.

The graphic photos I was able to incorporate into some of my research papers. My son in second grade loves the games. I love it. There is much to do with it.

5 Stars Great student product
For any student, young or old needing some additional instructions when not in class, this is the program for you.

5 Stars Encarta Student
The student version is very helpful. It provides easy access to hundreds of articles on a variety of topics. Easily accessible for those who are not yet exposed to the areas that they are exploring. However, it is not necessarily a great tool for those who have foundational knowledge in a field.

5 Stars A must have for all STUDENTS!
I was extremely impressed about how you could take and put in home work assignment a teacher has hand written and not in a book and it broke it down with the correct answer. The rest of the program can be used for any one is going to high school or college. It is a great asset and very useful tool for writing to math. I recommend this program for any one, I wish I had heard about it earlier when my son was in junior high, it is awesome.
